Field Experience (Left 4 Dead)

The first time I played this game was about a week ago on a Sunday. My cousin brought it over. Monday, I went out and bought it for myself. This game is a first person shooter and the player plays as one of four survivors of a zombie infection. By far, this is one of the best first person shooters I've played. When you are playing the game, you don't notice it, but when you are done, you realize how intense it actually is. One thing that makes it different is the survival aspect of the game. When you are playing, if there aren't enough players playing, there are computer played players so there are always four in the game, which is vital to the game. The way they make the zombies is if there is one person alone, the special zombies that are unique can take the person out very easily. When you're on your own in the game, it is like child's play for the zombies to take you out. The game is based on keeping all four players alive long enough to get to the safe room or get evacuated from the area. If in the game, one player dies, it reduces the effectiveness of the whole group and reduces your chances of succeeding in the whole game. Players die by zombies hitting them enough times, and after getting hit enough when they're down, or if they just lay on the ground long enough and don't get helped up, they will die. Your job is to get as many of the group to the evacuation vehicle. Another thing that makes it intense, is this one zombie called the witch. You can hear it crying when you get closer, and the closer you get, the louder it is. You can see it and if you find it, you can either attack it or try to sneak around it. To sneak around it, you have to turn off your flashlight and not go near it. If you do disturb it, chances are it will take down one of your group. It growls and makes a ruckus when you disturb it. Someone in the group usually notices the witch getting mad. The other four special zombies are also freaky. One of them is the smoker. It uses a very long tongue to grab you from a distance and pull you over to where it is. If it drags you a certain distance, you can't do anything and one of your teammates will have to save you. The next one is not as freaky, but it is called the boomer. This zombie will vomit a type of liquid on you that lures a horde of zombies and if you shoot it when it's too close to you, you'll get the liquid stuff splattered all over you. The third one is the hunter. The hunter will pounce on a survivor and attempt to tear it limb from limb. There is blood but no loss of body parts. You can tell this one is around and getting ready to pounce by hearing a distinct screaming sound. The hunter, the smoker and the boomer are the most frequent special zombies. The fourth special zombie is called the tank. This zombie is nothing more than muscle. It will pull chunks of concrete from the ground and throw them at you. It also runs up and punches you and it is the most powerful of all the zombies.

This game expanded my knowledge because first of all, I had to learn a new control scheme, along with being limited to the weapons and restrictions this game had to offer. For example, you can only carry one primary weapon, and you always have to have a pistol. You get the choice between a shotgun, a sniper, or a multiple round firing gun like a machine gun or assault rifle. It teaches me to play under these conditions which makes me think before I do things. Sometimes I have to think fast because I am in the middle of a situation. This game gave me a new perspective on video games, mostly useful tricks that I got from this game that I can use on other games.
